Glenrothes
History: Glenrothes was founded in 1878 by W. Grant & Co. In 1887, they merged with Islay Distillery Co to create the Highland Distilleries Ld. In 1922, the distillery burned down completely; in 1963 and 1980 the new distillery was expanded. Now commanding a full 10 stills, the production capacity of Glenrothes is about 5.6 million litres of pure alcohol. Glenrothes is very famous amongst blenders; it is a main component of both the Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark Blends. Character: honey, vanilla, sherry; Status: active
